ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES ASSISTANT:
1. Clean all areas of an assignment given by the department Director of Environmental Services according to the policies and procedures as set by the Hospital and Environmental Services Department. This cleaning is to include, but is not limited to the following as assigned schedules. All patient rooms, furnishings and bathrooms; all visitor or guest lobbies and restrooms; all ancillary departments and lounges; removal of trash, cleaning of halls and carpets
2. Completing and assisting with periodic project work. Washing walls, windows; shampooing carpets; buffing and maintaining hard floors
3. Follow standard precautions as set forth by OSHA and Hospital regulations. Waring of gloves, frequent hand washing; use of personal protective equipment; understanding and following isolation procedures; needs to familiarize self with the use and protection of equipment for blood borne pathogens as stated in the OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens Standards
4. Knowledge of chemicals, name and use/dilutions. Identifies chemical by name; proper use of chemicals; knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets and where they are located; how to read and understand them
5. Communication with patient regarding patient's rights; special request
6. General cleaning duties will include: Occupied patient rooms, dismissal unit, utilities, nursery, offices, laboratory, radiology, emergency, surgery, dining rooms, general floor care, carpet and furniture shampooing, general trash removal, red waste removal, restrooms, stairways, elevators, windows, etc.
7. Clean and disinfect restrooms and replenish soap, towels and toilet tissue.
8. Responsible for providing a physical environment that enhances the hospital's ability to provide efficient and safe patient care.
9. Will use the following equipment: High speed buffers, small scrubbers, vacuums (small and wide areas), extractors (small and wide areas), automatic floor scrubbers, wet floor scrubber, wet floor signs, carts, ladders
10. Maintain Environmental Services work areas in a neat, orderly fashion, including housekeeping carts.
11. Utilize documented procedures in the Infection Control Policy and Procedure Manual and personal protective equipment to prevent the spread of infection to patients/staff.
12. Adhere to patient confidentiality and privacy rules.
13. Follows and adheres to all hospital wide and departmental safety requirements.
14. Inventory stock to ensure supplies and equipment are available when needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
The Environmental Services Aide shall be:
1. High School diploma or GED
2. Demonstrate good organizational abilities
3. Previous housekeeping/laundry experience preferred
4. Customer service oriented
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ability to interact with patients, families, visitors and co-workers. Ability to interact assertively and tactfully when dealing with conflict and in group solving activities. Ability to demonstrate a professional, open minded approach in identifying problems and resolving problems/conflicts.
This position does not require hands-on delivery of care, however, incumbent must demonstrate understanding of how a patient's chronological and developmental age influences his/her need for adaptations related to his/her abilities.

While filling this position, the employee must regularly lift and or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This position also requires reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, and hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, and working with equipment.
